Compliance letters are issued by the Town of Whitby to confirm the current status of a property. These letters are often requested by lawyers, in advance of a property being transferred to a new owner.

Compliance letters provide applicants with information about the following:

• Open or outstanding building permits affecting a property
• Approved pool enclosure permits
• Approved Additional Dwelling Unit (ADU)/Accessory Apartment registrations
• Outstanding notices/orders issued against a property
• Confirmation of the zoning category 
• Minor variances granted for a property
• The heritage status of a property (Only if requested)
• Status of agreements registered on the title of a property (Only if requested)
